Mathematics Courses for Teaching Assistants

Are your Teaching Assistants confident in supporting learning in Mathematics?

Vivien has developed a series of sessions for TAs covering the breadth of the primary mathematics curriculum content and also looking at key mathematical pedagogies:

  • being active to raise engagement
  • encouraging reasoning and the use of maths vocabulary to secure understanding
  • developing pupils’ independence rather than dependency
  • the use of models, images and manipulatives to support progress in tricky concepts.

Vivien recognises that Mathematics can often be a bit daunting, so she brings infectious enthusiasm, common sense and a gentle, non-threatening and fun approach to her work with TAs. With this in mind, these courses also have the following aims:

  • to build capability and confidence in all areas of mathematics
  • to raise awareness of progression and share strategies for supporting pupils to overcome common misconceptions
  • to enhance professional skills, especially how to work successfully with individual pupils and groups in Mathematics lessons.

These sessions can be commissioned by schools or clusters and can be delivered as separate half-days or combined together to make one or two whole day of input. A flyer for these will be available here soon. Feel free to get in touch if you can’t wait and need information sooner rather than later.
